A Netflix blockbuster starring Ryan Reynolds and 6 other big trailers you may have missed this week

These include teasers for a new Stephen King adaptation and a Vikings sequel.

Welcome to JOE’s Trailers Column, your weekly round-up of the biggest teasers in the world of film and television.

And it’s been another big week in terms of trailers, with new footage for blockbusters Jurassic World: Dominionfor the TV series adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel conversations with friends and for Menthe new horror film from filmmaker Alex Garland (Annihilation, Ex Machina).

We’ve covered all of these in separate articles, but there were plenty of other big teasers released this week which, as always, we’ve compiled here for your viewing pleasure.

The Adam Project

The Adam Project is a new sci-fi blockbuster that begins with movies and revolves around a time-travelling pilot (Ryan Reynolds) who bonds with his younger self and late father (Mark Ruffalo).

This is both “getting to grips with your past while saving your future”.

The Adam Project reunites Reynolds with the director of last year’s critical and promotional hit Free Guy, landing on Netflix March 11.

After being adapted into film in the ’80s with a young Drew Barrymore, Hollywood takes another shot at Stephen King’s novel about a girl who develops pyrokinesis.

Starring Zac Efron as the arsonist’s father trying to protect his child from a shady government agency trying to capture and control them, it’s due out May 13 in the US, so you can look forward to a release in Ireland can count.

Based on a true story, Mark Wahlberg plays a boxer who, after surviving a horrific accident, decides to dedicate his life to God by becoming a priest, much to the chagrin of his estranged parents (Jacki Weaver and Mel Gibson).

However, a devastating health diagnosis he later receives puts his faith to the test.

Father Stu looks like it’s going to be an emotional and life-affirming watch, hitting theaters on April 15.

After releasing a teaser last year, Pixar has unveiled a lengthy official trailer of Lightyear, its highly anticipated spin-off of the Toy Story franchise.

The film serves as the original story for the human character Buzz Lightyear (voiced here by Chris Evans), who inspired the action figure from the Toy Story films.

As is typical of Pixar, the film looks stunning. It is set for an Irish release on June 17th.

The dropout / Life after Beth

TV released trailers this week for two promising new series coming to Disney+ in Ireland under the Star banner.

First up is The Dropout, which chronicles the rise and fall of former biotechnology entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes, played by Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia, Mank).

It will premiere on March 3 with three episodes, with subsequent episodes streaming weekly.

The second trailer was for Life and Beth, a new comedy-drama series written and directed by and starring Amy Schumer about a woman who after a sudden incident begins to rethink her life.

An Irish release date for the show has not yet been set, but it will premiere in the States on March 18.

Vikings: Wax

Last but not least, this sequel to the hit series Vikings will be available on Netflix later this month, on February 25th.

Set 100 years after the original series, Vikings: Wax tells the tales of some of history’s most famous Norsemen.
