Eternals star Salma Hayek and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger reunite in new Super Bowl ad as honor of retirement

eternal Star Salma Hayek becomes a god again in a new Super Bowl commercial — not as Ajak, but as the queen of the Greek pantheon, Hera. At her side is none other than actor Arnold Schwarzenegger as Zeus, Master of Olympus.

The BMW commercial, which aired during the Super Bowl game, features Hera and Zeus retiring from rulership of the Greek pantheon and instead living among humans in sunny California. As Zeus struggles to find peace and quiet away from neighbors and friends who request some of his lightning, everything gets better when Hera brings home the all-electric BMW iX.

Schwarzenegger had hinted at the ad’s debut and its humorous take on Zeus back in January when he posted a picture of himself in costume in an intense and electrifying photo. At the time, the ad itself remained a mystery, with some speculating that it might be an upcoming project.

After the poster for the ad was released, Schwarzenegger was temporarily listed as part of the Warner Bros. cast. Shazam! wrath of the gods. It was later confirmed that his appearance as Zeus was for the BMW commercial and the actor appeared as a Greek god in a short clip, this time without Hayek.

Hayek’s involvement in the ad was unknown until it was published. The actor was last seen fighting Deviants and saving the world at Marvel Studios. eternal. She previously revealed that the role surprised her as she expected to be cast for a grandmother-like role. Hayek explained, “I think I thought the boat had sailed and it was an absolute shock… It’s pretty hard to be an action hero when you’re Mexican. It’s really hard to be an action hero when you’re a Mexican and a woman. But being an action hero, being a Mexican, being a woman and being my age, it felt like they were punking me.”

Ajak, who served as leader of the Eternals during their time as a team, perished in the film, slain by Deviants after being betrayed by Ikaris. It is unlikely that she will return in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. eternal itself was not well received by critics and underperformed at the box office, grossing $402.1 million on a budget of $200 million.
