Arteta on red card record

Gabriel Martinelli’s petulant red card against Wolves exposed Arsenal’s clear transfer flaw.

Martinelli was sent off for two yellow cards within seconds of each other – the Gunners’ fourth dismissal in their last six games – after two quickfire fouls in the second half.

It comes as goalkeeper Matt Turner’s transfer from New England Revolution has all but sealed Bernd Leno’s Emirates Stadium exit.

And English football’s dirtiest club this season has been revealed – with Arsenal, perhaps surprisingly considering their recent disciplinary record, avoiding top spot.

Dirtiest club revealed

The side with the most red cards in England this season has been revealed – and it’s not Arsenal.

Leno’s exit all but confirmed

Matt Turner’s imminent arrival at Arsenal this summer appears to have sealed the exit of German goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

And with Leno having been linked with a move away from north London for some time now, it could appear the writing is finally on the wall for the German.

With just one year left on his Arsenal contract, the Gunners are expected to cash in on the goalkeeper rather than allow him to leave for nothing in 2023.

Martinelli exposes transfer flaw

Gabriel Martinelli has exposed Arsenal’s flaws in the transfer market.

The Brazilian was shown two quickfire yellow cards in the 1-0 win over Wolves on Thursday night as the Gunners’ disciplinary issues continued.

That left Alexandre Lacazette to lead the line for Arsenal, and means Mikel Arteta will have one less striker he can rely on while Martinelli sits out his suspension.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaving the club in January and the club failing in their bid to bring in Dusan Vlahovic, it could leave the Gunners a little light up top in the coming weeks.
