Those watching the 2022 BAFTAs Sunday night noticed that a very famous late actress was missing from the emotional “In Memoriam” segment.
During the star-studded event at the Royal Albert Hall, the film awards took a moment to remember those in the industry who have passed away since the last ceremony
As a video montage paid tribute to recently deceased stars like Italian actress Monica Vitti and cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, viewers watching at home noticed that Betty White was missing from the list of much-missed icons.
“Sorry @BAFTA but where was Betty White on In Memoriam,” an angry fan tweeted as the show aired on BBC One.
“Bafta sucks cuz they didn’t pay tribute to Ed Asner and Betty White,” ranted another, while a third added, “Where was Betty White in the #BAFTAs in memoriam section @BAFTA???”
Betty’s sad death was announced on New Year’s Eve 2021 – just weeks before the legendary actress was due to celebrate her 100th birthday with a grand celebration and star-studded film release in her honor.
As the BAFTAs paid tribute to other deceased stars on Sunday night, the academy also shared on Twitter a link to a “tribute to the artists who made a significant contribution to the film industry who sadly passed away in the last year” on its website.
Golden Girls star Betty is included among the 2021 deaths listed on the site.
“Overall, White won six Emmys from 23 nominations and received his Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015,” reads part of the BAFTA tribute.
“In 2010 she received the BAFTA Los Angeles’ UK Award for Excellence in Comedy in honor of Charlie Chaplin.”
The website tribute didn’t do much to reassure those wondering where the late star’s scream was that night.

“#BAFTAs #BAFTA2022 #BAFTA how come Betty White didn’t get a mention in memoriam that she died on December 31st 2021 that’s awful,” another expressed disappointment on Twitter Sunday night.
Some argued that since Betty worked primarily in television, she was not eligible to appear in the moving tribute.
Many quickly hit back to point out that the late star had made cameos in Hollywood films like The Proposal opposite Sandra Bullock and animations like Toy Story 4 and The Lorax.
Just weeks before the Golden Girls actress passed away at the age of 99, it was announced that a film celebrating her 100th birthday was in the works.
The late star had planned to invite fans to celebrate her milestone birthday on January 17, 2022 and film scenes for a project that was due to be released in cinemas across the United States.
The documentary, titled Betty White: 100 Years Young – A Birthday Celebration, is also star-studded – including cameos from Ryan Reynolds, Tina Fey, Robert Redford, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and James Corden.
