Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be ‘on the level of No Way Home’ says Benedict Cumberbatch – Exclusive Images | movies

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about the multiverse so far, it’s, well, big. Very large. You just won’t believe how massive, huge, mind bogglingly big it is. But here’s the real question: will it be as big as Spider-Man: No Way Home? The next movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessis ready to wildly expand the reality-altering shenanigans that have been brewing Loki, What if…?, WandaVisionand that big screen spider-Behemoth that throws Benedict Cumberbatch’s master of mystical arts into a whole heap of chaos. Variants will be plentiful. There will be stunning alternate universes. According to the latest trailer, there will be dinosaurs. His leading man expects a big reaction.

“It’s a big, big movie,” promises Cumberbatch, whose Doctor Strange was last seen hastily patching cracks in reality at the end No way home. “It’s going to be an absolute riot. And if it brings the ambition it has, we’ll have a success at Spidey’s level. Here we go, I’ll put my flag in the sand.” Considering the film has grossed over $1.86 billion and is still climbing (in the pandemic era, no less), those are big words from the not-quite-Sorcerer supreme

No way home – and the double whammy of Avengers: Infinity War and endgame – proved that Doctor Strange plays really well with others after all. And he teams up with a comic book favorite in his second solo film. Make way for America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez, a young woman with the ability to navigate her way through the diverse realities of the multiverse who will present all sorts of dilemmas to our favorite sorceress. “Strange is still learning about the multiverse,” teases director Sam Raimi. “And here’s a character that can actually travel through it. He’s such a know-it-all all the time and having to learn from a kid is probably smart.” Here’s an exclusive picture of the couple who appear to have been captured – but by who?

Beyond the chaos, carnage and chavez of everything but Multiverse of Madness is a Doctor Strange story through and through – one that gets right to the heart of the character. “There’s a lot of accounting,” says Cumberbatch. “And a lot of self-discovery. Strange is almost a stranger to himself before this film unfolds and reveals what essentially lies in his nature, which he then must either face or resist or fall into or become. The answers to who Strange really is will not have easy answers. “There are some very bold ideas and some extraordinary tests from Strange and Encounters,” Cumberbatch continues. “There are some very unexpected conclusions.”
