A new teaser for the DCEU’s upcoming films features a handy upgrade from The Flash’s Pearl, portrayed by Ezra Miller.
Ezra Miller’s Scarlet Speedster gets a handy upgrade to his suit The Lightning.
The promotional teaser recently released by Warner Bros. and DC Films offered a glimpse of Barry Allen’s new costume. Notably, this included an upgrade to his helmet, which will now feature retractable lenses over his eyes, a helpful feature for a fast-moving hero like The Flash.
During DC FanDome 2020, it was teased that The Flash of the DC Extended Universe would receive a new and improved superhero suit in the upcoming film, specially designed by Bruce Wayne / The Batman. “As you can see, it’s more organic,” director Andy Muschietti said at the time. “Like it was built by his friend Bruce Wayne this time.” In July 2021, Muschietti shared another update on The Flash’s upgraded suit and teased the hero’s brand new chest emblem.
The promotional video, titled “The World Needs Heroes,” also featured previews of other upcoming DC movies, including Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Black Adam and The Batman. In a recent interview Aquaman Star Patrick Wilson teased both The Lost Kingdom and The Lightning would use never-before-seen VFX techniques to bring these DC stories to life on screen.
Mussetti confirmed in October 2021 that filming had officially wrapped The Lightning. Around this time, the director also revealed during the DC FanDome in China that the upcoming movie will have a lot of surprises in store. “We can tell you there are surprises, but we can’t reveal what they are,” he said. “But it’ll probably knock your socks off… The less we talk about it, the better. There is excitement behind the cameras at these surprises. You better not know her until you see her on the big screen.”
While details surrounding the plot remain scarce, The Lightning will delve heavily into the multiverse and explore alternate realities, with Ben Affleck reprising his role as DCEU’s Bruce Wayne/Batman for a small cameo alongside Michael Keaton’s 1989’s Batman Batman and 1992s Batman returns. Miller is also expected to portray an evil doppelganger version of The Flash in the film. In an interview last year, Muschietti stated that this storyline will be the basis for future films about DC properties.
“This film is a little bit soulful in the sense that it presents a story that implies a unified universe where all the cinematic iterations that we’ve seen before are valid,” Musketti said at the time. “It’s comprehensive in the sense that it says everything you have seen and everything you are exists will it exists in the same unified multiverse.”
The Lightning Races to theaters Nov. 4, 2022.
