To use a famous phrase, it seems Kevin Costner will always love you, Whitney Houston. If you last night the 28thth annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, you understand why. During the red carpet audition, PEOPLE stopped the 67-year-old yellowstone Main actor and Hollywood legend for a short chat. What happened later was a touching moment of a singer we lost far too soon who died 10 years ago this month.

1992, The bodyguard It wasn’t expected to take over radio stations and big screens. Still, mostly because of Whitney Houston’s riveting portrayal of troubled soul and pop sensation Rachel Marron. In the film, Marron receives disturbing threats from wannabe cute do-gooders. Her manager (Gary Kemp) urges her to hire a bodyguard. Enter the rugged juice and former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner).

Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston had an undeniable, smoldering on-screen chemistry. The magic moment of the film, however, is when Houston covers the song “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton and truly makes it her own. The rendition was so extraordinary that even Dolly was powerfully moved as she listened to Whitney hit all those notes, as she shared in a November 2020 interview with Oprah Winfrey on Apple TV+:

My heart just started beating so fast, and then when she got to “I Will Always Love You,” when that opened up and I realized that was my song, that was the most overwhelming thing.

It was unforgettable, a moment that stood still in cinema history. This song, her version, is unique for many reasons. One of the most famous becomes the best-selling soundtrack with 45 million copies worldwide. 831,000 albums were sold in one week! That was 30 years ago, and to this day there is no getting around it. Kevin Costner then knew Houston’s impression of this song, and their film was unforgettable, which they alluded to in the stand-up interview:

When movies are at their best, it’s about moments and images you’ll never forget… I don’t think we’ll ever forget when that little song she just blew up came out. She sang the first part of it a cappella and musically the world was never the same.

He’s right about that. Although her death was on February 11, 2012, people today still feel deprived by Whitney Houston’s unfortunate death. Fans still want more from the 48-year-old chanteuse, and thanks to her estate, Kevin Costner and the rest of the world will get it. As Variety reports, Houston’s estate and Primary Wave Music are preparing for a comeback of sorts.

“It was time to rebuild Whitney’s business and Primary Wave was a perfect fit with their arsenal of industry professionals, a team designed to take Whitney’s legacy to the next level,” said Pat Houston, the late’s sister-in-law Artist’s former manager who acts as executor of her estate.

A decade after her death, Whitney Houston has quadrupled her income year over year. More earnings will follow as Hollywood takes two angles on her life. A biopic comes with the title I want to dance with someone has the full support of her estate and welcomes Naomi Acker as the choice to play Whitney this December. And of course Tinseltown can’t resist a remake that isn’t necessary either The bodyguard is also intended for a refresher. It’s clear that Whitney Houston’s life matters and has made quite an impression on millions of people, including a guy who looks like he’s replaying “One Moment in Time” from 10 years ago.
