No Way Home Promo focuses on Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man

An official promo for Spider-Man: No Way Home highlights Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker — and how important Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy is to his story.

An official promo for Sony and Marvel Studios Spider-Man: No Way Home shines a light on Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man (aka “Peter #3”) — and certainly doesn’t downplay the importance of Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy to its story.

The promo includes some footage of Garfield appearing in No way homehowever, consists primarily of repurposed footage from Sony’s two Amazing Spider-Man movies. To that end, most of the footage summarizes the romance between Peter and Gwen and its tragic ending. The scene out The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in which Peter ultimately fails to save Gwen from her demise is contrasted with the scene from No way home where he achieves a form of redemption by saving Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson (Zendaya) from a similar fate.

Garfield and Stone starred as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, respectively, in 2012 The Incredible Spiderman. They subsequently reprized their roles in 2014 The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Gwen’s death in the latter is directly based on The Night Gwen Stacy Died, a two-part story arc directed by Gerry Conway, Gil Kane, John Romita Sr., Tony Mortellaro, David Hunt, and Artie Simek that ran in 1973 Amazing Spider-Man #121 and #122.

While The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was never made, Garfield later reprized his role as Peter Parker in No way homealong with Tobey Maguire reprising his own version of the character from director Sam Raimi’s 2002-2007 Spiderman Trilogy. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Maguire’s Peter and Garfield’s Peter join forces with Tom Holland’s version of the character to heal a multitude of enemies from the former two’s screen pasts.

in the No way home, Garfield’s Peter reveals that losing Gwen left him bitter, which led to him becoming a more brutal Spider-Man who stopped pulling his punches. He also implies he hasn’t left Gwen yet, confiding in Maguire’s Peter that he “didn’t have time” to start a new relationship. Interestingly, Stone was once rumored to be reprising her role as Gwen in the MCU film, although this was quickly debunked and ultimately didn’t materialize.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is in theaters and is now digital. The film will be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on April 12th.
