PLATELL’S PEOPLE: Alice Evans should learn to love life without Ioan Gruffudd

When beautiful but little-known actress Alice Evans fell in love with little TV star Ioan Gruffudd on the set of 102 Dalmatians in 1999, it was the stuff of fairy tales.

She told the world she “met my decent husband who, incredibly, loved me as much as I loved him.”

They dated for years before getting engaged in 2006, marrying in Mexico and having two daughters. They lived what they thought was the perfect showbiz life. She slowly pursued her ambitions to support her husband.

Until the bombshell last year, when Gruffudd, 48, filed for divorce after falling for actress Bianca Wallace, 29, who they met in Australia when they were “working away” – and apparently playing away too.

Alice, 53, is devastated, as any woman would be. She refused to take it and launched a campaign that culminated in Gruffudd filing a restraining order against her that included more than 100 pages of her sometimes hysterical texts, emails and social media posts.

When beautiful but little-known actress Alice Evans fell in love with little TV star Ioan Gruffudd on the set of 102 Dalmatians in 1999, it was the stuff of fairy tales. She told the world she “met my decent husband who, incredibly, loved himself as much as I loved him.”

Some of their messages are terrible. She called Wallace a “psychopathic succubus,” which I had to look up — it means a female demon who has sex with sleeping men.

In others, she said she would “dedicate the rest of my life to spreading awareness of what you have done.”

The tragedy is that our hearts were with Alice when the split was announced. Now she seems so bitter that she loses our sympathy. He treated her abominably, but she must move on.

How must her children – Ella, 12, and Elsie, eight – feel, already distraught after their father moved out and has to negotiate this painful public divorce?

Does Alice really want the rest of her life to be ruled by an impostor whose greatest triumph comes in the unforgettable Hornblower TV series?

For the sake of herself and her girls, she must let go of her hate or it will destroy her.

Her vendetta will also affect the way her girls view their own relationships and their chance for future happiness.

Life can be cruel, hearts are broken but they heal. you have to let go

Alice should try to find joy in her own life. As the 17th-century poet George Herbert wrote, “The best revenge is to live well.”

KO all those baby snaps

Boxing champ and Strictly star Nicola Adams shares her baby joy as partner Ella Baig heads into her second trimester with the child they’ve been longing for, and posts pictures of her ultrasound scan.

Nicola wants to help remove the stigma gay couples face when trying to have a child and show same-sex couples that they are not alone. Well done she.

But I’ve never quite understood why anyone would want to show us their ultrasound scan or bombard us with pictures of the newborn when it arrives. It’s a baby, not the Second Coming.

The BBC’s Amol Rajan reached new heights of toadies when he interviewed Novak Djokovic, in which the world’s No. 1 tennis player revealed he hadn’t been vaccinated! Something we all knew anyway. And why did Rajan, lying on his back, keep pronouncing Novak’s name “Joke-ovic”? Maybe because the “joke” of this non-interview was on him.

No chocolate for Amanda

Looking sensational at 51, Amanda Holden celebrates her birthday in a breathtakingly tight black PVC bra and daringly opened slit skirt worthy of a dominatrix.

But a picture of her celebratory cake was certainly a prop.

With a body like hers, Amanda’s lips were the closest thing to a calorie-laden sponge as she blew out the candles.

After Eamonn Holmes, 62, was sacked by ITV for being over the hill, Holmes has starred in his new GB News breakfast TV show hosted by Angela Rippon, 77. That shows the age of ITV! The brilliant Angela first read the national news in 1974 – when Richard Nixon was still President.

33 victims of the Post IT scandal died before they were brought to justice, while many still await redress years later. The same goes for Grenfell and Hillsborough. It is shameful that too often our scales of justice are tipped towards rich and powerful interest groups, not ordinary people.

You are Tolkien the Mickey

As a loyal Tolkien fan who knows almost all of the dialogue from all three The Lord of the Rings films, I’m concerned about Amazon’s new offering, The Rings Of Power.

Peter Jackson’s trilogy garnered 17 Oscars, starring a slew of stars including Ian McKellen, Sean Bean, Ian Holm, Bernard Hill and Cate Blanchett. Meanwhile, The Rings Of Power boasts Lenny Henry as the hobbit at 6ft 3in, although we all know the hobbits are very short.

As Gandalf said, “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”

Given that this five-series extravaganza lasts 50 hours, I’m afraid I’ll spend my time washing my hair.

Westminster Wars

Boris Johnson triumphs in the cockpit of a British Typhoon jet as Putin continues to threaten world war by invading Ukraine. Does our PM give the thumbs up because the row wiped Partygate off the front pages?

Keir Starmer wants a 10 per cent pay rise for workers who have struggled through Covid. Great idea and here’s how to fund it. For all the almost half a million civil servants who are now mostly working from home, docking their pay when they’re not in the office and giving it to NHS staff – they’ve never had the option of a WFH exit charter.

Labor No2 Angela Rayner says we should shoot terrorists first and ask questions later. Didn’t work out well for the innocent Jean Charles de Menezes, did it? But then Rayner can’t help but gape at her in search of a cheap headline.

Google made me curl up

Hero of the week is Bruce Mouat, captain of the inspirational UK Olympic curling team who won our first medal at the Winter Games. However, as a nation, we still don’t fully appreciate them as top athletes. When I googled “British Curlers” I found Carmen Heated Rollers.

The suggestion that Andrew could help charities that support sex trafficking victims is understandably met with derision. What’s next footballer Kurt Zouma offers to volunteer at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home?

Prince Harry’s legal battle to claim Priti Patel should allow him to pay for police protection when his family comes to the UK. He argues that they “inherited” the risk of being born into the royal family. Oh the irony. With his cruel sense of privilege, it is he who puts the Royals at risk!

The Queen has chosen not to add to Prince Andrew’s humiliation by stripping him of his duchy. I wonder if Her Majesty’s loyal subjects would agree. Hereinafter I shall refer to the Duke of York as Andrew Windsor, his ex-wife the Duchess of York as Sarah Ferguson – and his princess daughters only as Bea and Eugenie.

A Lottie lawbreaker

Lottie Moss, 24, the model best known only as the little sister of superstar Kate, admits she entered rehab in the US for her “really bad addiction to cocaine,” a Class A drug . But instead of feeling sorry after she revealed she was doing illegal drugs here, we’re now just wondering why the police didn’t come by to arrest her.
