Poldark: Where are the cast members now? From Amazon shows to blockbuster movies

It was a series that captured — and even stole — the hearts of millions around the world. Some three decades after the first Poldark series had a similar effect, a new version hit our screens seven years ago.

The stories, based on the books by Winston Graham and set in Cornwall’s prosperous mining era in the late 18th century, focused on the life and love, trials and tribulations of mine captain and Revolutionary War veteran Ross Poldark, played by a then lesser-known heartthrob Aidan Turner. Of course, the main topic for fans was his romance with Demelza, played by Eleanor Tomlinson.

But since the emotional ending in 2019, the cast has remained a permanent fixture on our screens, taking on some pretty notable roles. From Amazon shows to blockbuster films, the stars have come a long way since the BBC drama first aired.

Here’s what the Poldark cast plans to do:

Aidan Turner

Lead actor Aidan Turner, 38, rose to fame playing Ross Poldark — thanks largely to THAT shirtless Scythe photo — but he’s since cemented his acting career and star status in several high-profile roles.

In his latest role, Turner stars alongside leading actor Matt Berry in the cult BBC comedy Toast of Tinseltown. But it doesn’t stop there for Turner fans, as he is set to host ITV’s gripping new psychological thriller series, The Suspect, later this year. The five-part drama is produced by producers Line of Duty, Vigil and The Pembrokeshire Murders.

Turner plays Doctor Joe O’Loughlin, a successful clinical psychologist whose seemingly perfect life is called into question after the death of a young woman. He said in a statement: “I’m thrilled to take on the complex and challenging role of Joseph O’Loughlin, a man with so much to give but so much to lose, and a hidden darker side.”

The Irish actor is also set to return to screens next month, playing Leonardo da Vinci in a new series, Leonardo, out on Amazon Prime about the life of the Renaissance polymath.

The series, already airing in Italy, reportedly plays hard and fast with the truth, inventing a new muse and a murder charge against the Italian genius.

Also starring Turner, the film The Way of the Wind is currently in post-production while filming for the TV series The Suspects is ongoing.

His other recent works include The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot (2018), Love is Blind (2019), Loving Vincent about van Gogh and his reunion with Tomlinson in 2017. Of course he has been before Poldark famous minor degree in The Hobbit blockbuster movies in 2012-2014.

Eleanor Tomlinson

Recently, Eleanor Tomlinson, 29, starred alongside Sam Clafflin in a Netflix romantic comedy, Love Wedding Repeat. But the film also shows a sort of Poldark reunion. That’s because bride Hayley and her distraught ex Marc are played by Tomlinson and Jack Farthing, two actors who also played Poldark’s heroine Demelza Poldark and villain, Ross’ jealous archrival George Warleggan.

Elsewhere, Tomlinson starred alongside American legend Christopher Walken, Stephen Merchant and Rhianne Barreto in last year’s BBC and Amazon Studios series The Outlaws, written and directed by Merchant, Ricky Gervais’ co-writer of The Office. Tomlinson was almost unrecognizable in his role as a breezy social media influencer, a million miles from a late 18th-century Cornish maid.

While last year she also appeared in the television series The Nevers and Intergalactic – which followed on the small screen Ordeal by Innocence (2018) and The War of the Worlds (2019), other film credits include Colette (2018) and Van Gogh’s fairy tale Loving Vincent (2017). .

Jack Farthing

Princess Diana drama Spencer found its Prince Charles in Poldark as an actor Jack Farthing. The 36-year-old performer filmed the adjacent project Kristen Stewart who played Dianna in the movie.

He also appears in Chloe, a new BBC drama in which he plays the brooding friend Richard of the main character Chloe. The full series is now available to watch on iPlayer.

As well as the aforementioned Love Wedding Repeat, he also starred in meandering and tense 2021 drama The Lost Daughter from 2020 alongside Olivia Colman and Official Secrets in 2019.

Another Netflix credit, Luke Norris, 36 – the Dr. Dwight Enys, Ross’ longtime friend from the army, played – stars in the thriller The Weekend Away, based on the Sarah Alderson bestseller of the same name. He stars alongside Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester and plays her husband in the twisted Who Dunnit movie.

Icelandic actress Heida Reed, 33, played the lead role of Elizabeth Warleggan – Ross’ childhood sweetheart – in Poldark.

Reed is now working with Emmy-winning producer Dick Wolf and currently portrays FBI Special Agent Jamie Kellett on the CBS crime drama series FBI: International.

The film Summerlight… and Then Comes the Night is in post-production.
