producer Frank Marshall has confirmed on Twitter that filming on the long-delayed has wrapped up Indiana Jones 5. Harrison Ford will return to don the legendary fedora in what will surely be his last days as a legendary adventurer. Jacob Mangold (logan, ford v Ferrari) takes on directing duties Steven Spielbergwho stays on board as a producer.
There are no plot details or a title for the film at this time, although some sort of “torch-taking” is expected. Phoebe Waller Bridge (fleasack), Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Thomas Kretschmann (King Kong), Boyd Holbrook (logan), Shaunette Renee Wilson (Black Panther), Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger), and Antonio Banderas (The Mask of Zoro) are all set to co-star. Mangold wrote the screenplay for the film alongside his ford v Ferrari co-writer, jazz and John Henry Butterworth.
development on a fifth Indiana Jones Film has lingered since the release of Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008. George Luke Tossed around ideas for the next installment, which eventually got passed Kathleen Kennedy when she became President of Lucasfilm in 2012. The studio put the film on the back burner to focus on the next one war of stars Films, with versions of the script by David Koepp (Jurassic Park) and Jonathan Kasdan (Solo: A Star Wars Story) Come and go.
Spielberg initially planned to direct the film but resigned in 2020 when Mangold signed. Much like Ford passed on the baton, the director wanted to pass responsibility to a younger director to give them a chance to get their shot and take on the universe. Spielberg has certainly been busy with his remake Westside Story contending for major awards this season, and a semi-autobiographical film that mentions his childhood in the titled works The Fabelmans.
Indiana Jones 5 began filming back in June and has faced various hurdles between the COVID-19 pandemic and a shoulder injury Ford sustained just weeks into production. A significant release delay was also noted for the film in October, pushing it nearly a year from its original date. The globetrotter adventure sure is afoot (like now Indiana Jones films), with filming taking place in England, Scotland, Italy and Morocco.
Indiana Jones 5 will finally hit theaters on June 30, 2023. Check out Marshall’s “hat tip” on filming below:
