This Week’s Top New Shows and Movies (March 21)

Prime Video’s schedule means there’s always something new. A new historical drama is released this week, along with Lizzo’s new reality show.

This week, Amazon Prime Video is releasing a historical psychological drama, a sports documentary and a new reality show starring Lizzo, and continues releasing weekly new TV shows. The last two years have been a strange time for streaming services, which have been able to enrich people who are spending more time at home, but have also had the ability to release big blockbuster films directly to their platforms. As more major studio films return to major theatrical releases of late, some are still playing it safe and releasing direct to streaming where their viewers can safely watch this brand new content from the comfort of their own homes. Most recently, this applied to the big hit from Pixar To redden, which gave up its theatrical run to release directly on Disney+. This shift to streaming is a boon for viewers who prefer streaming services over newly-crowded cinemas, as the Amazon Prime Video platform has plenty of new content to offer.

Amazon announced the move last week master, which received critical acclaim at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, blends horror with social analysis as three women work to secure their positions at New England’s historically white Ancaster College. Prime Video also dropped the erotic thriller Deep water with Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas in an adaptation of the 1957 novel of the same name by Patricia Highsmith.

Different streaming services have different approaches to their releases. While many use a weekly model, appearing in all of their new releases on a specific day of the week, Amazon Prime Video releases content on a monthly schedule. This release schedule means that Prime Video’s new content will be released on different days of the week and month, with some weighting to the first day of the month, particularly for Amazon’s replenishment of older releases in Prime Video’s back catalogue. Prime Video’s new content falls into three categories: movies and TV shows previously released on Amazon Prime Video (often Amazon Originals), movies that have seen a theatrical release, or TV shows that have aired elsewhere and are now available for streaming is coming for the first time, or sometimes older content, making its debut as part of Amazon’s extensive Prime Video back catalogue. Here are the best new movies and TV shows coming to Amazon Prime Video for the week of March 31st.
