Tom Cruise lived up to his action man status as he piloted his own helicopter to land in South Africa on Sunday.

The Hollywood heavyweight, 59, gave fans a friendly wave and smiled as he arrived to film scenes for Mission: Impossible 8 in Hoedspruit, Limpopo.

Wearing a blue polo shirt, gray trousers and hiking boots, the film star removed his face mask after stepping off the helicopter.

They were reportedly staying in the small northern town of Hoedspruit near the Mozambique border.

The actor, who plays Ethan Hunt in ‘Mission Impossible,’ flew to scenes in nearby Kruger National Park himself and stayed in town between shoots.

He told fans this week: “It’s so great to see you. I can’t wait for you to see the next movie. Thank you for coming out today.’

One of them asked Tom if they would ever move to South Africa, to which they said: “I would love it, it would be nice to live here. We are very curious. We’ve wanted to film here for a long time.’

Discussing what they saw on his helicopter ride, they said, “We just saw some cheetahs or lions, they were right in front of someone’s driveway.”

Before saying goodbye, the star added: “Thank you all for your hospitality. It means a lot to me. ‘

Mission: Impossible 7 is slated for release on July 7, 2023 after a tumultuous production that has required an unprecedented $290 million in spending.

A notable factor in the film’s massive budget was the global pandemic that swept across mainland Europe shortly after principal photography began in Venice in February 2020.

The lockdown and a desperate attempt to circumvent COVID-19 meant the production got off to an awkward start – with cast and crew forced to halt work after northern Italy closed its doors.

Sources claim that constant infections combined with national health restrictions and the refusal of the pandemic to abate have resulted in higher costs as crew members have to be paid, expenses and hotel accommodations paid during extended quarantine and lockdown periods.

Meanwhile, the film’s release date has been changed, with the original September 2021 start pushed back to July 2022, with Paramount citing “delays due to the ongoing pandemic.”

The wait adds interest to an already inflated budget while also having a domino effect on the work-in-progress Mission: Impossible 8, which is now expected to release on July 24th, 2024 instead of its planned release date of July 7th, 2023.

The relentless pressure to complete the film may have been the trigger for Tom’s high-profile outburst on set in December 2020 after a crew member broke COVID protocol – further jeopardizing the production.

“We’re the gold standard!” Tom was heard shouting in a recording of the incident. “They’re back in Hollywood because of us, making movies right now!
