When Rishi Kapoor yelled at Juhi Chawla on the set of Sharmaji Namkeen, “Why are you acting like an insecure actor?”

Juhi Chawla and Rishi Kapoor first shared screen space in 1992 when Bol Radha Bol was released. Now her final screen appearance will be in Sharmaji Namkeen, which is set to have a direct-to-OTT release. Speaking about Sharmaji Namkeen, Juhi couldn’t hold back her tears as the film is Rishi Kapoor’s final project. Rishi Kapoor passed away in 2020. He had one shot for much of the film; Creators completed it with Paresh Rawal after his death.

Director Hitesh Bhatia has described his debut film as a “roller coaster ride” but has promised it consists of “a mixture of ingredients” that make it a “good film”.

Juhi, who was revisiting her Sharmaji Namkeen journey, called it a film that was “so much fun but heartbreaking at the same time.” She then shared how she found it amazing that the creators were focused on completing the film no matter what.

“A few weeks after Chintu ji (Rishi Kapoor) passed away, Ritesh Sidhwani from Excel Entertainment called me and said, ‘We’re going to see this through to the end. We’re not going to give that up.” I felt like I was all for it. i love the movie I loved working with Chintu ji. I was quite heartbroken when he left us. So with this film we went through a bouquet of emotions. But I’m happy to see that it’s done and set for release,” Juhi expressed.

When asked about her fondest memory of working with the legendary Rishi Kapoor, Juhi smiled and replied, “There were so many incidents… so many. At the beginning of my career I was in awe of him because I was standing in front of “the” Chintu Ji. I was like a newbie in front of him. I’d forget my lines, fumble and all. So, I’ve seen him from then to now.” She talked about how acting in front of him was always a chore for her, but over time the process smoothed out as she became more comfortable in her craft.

Regarding her experience working with Rishi Kapoor in Sharmaji Namkeen, Juhi said she was always scolded by him.

“He used to scold me on the sets. Always,” Juhi recalled, adding that this time she would start giggling every time they got mad at her. “When he started ranting, I started giggling. It was so much fun working with him. I want to go there. “

She then talked about how Sharmaji Namkeen’s script was tailored for Rishi Kapoor. “When I heard it, as an actor, I was very jealous. It’s such a perfect script for him. The moment I read the script, I could hear him say those lines.”

Recalling one of the days on the sets of Sharmaji Namkeen, Juhi recalled Rishi Kapoor yelling at her for looking at the monitor. The legendary actor called Juhi Chawla an “unsafe actor”.

“On the sets, when the scenes were rolling, Chintu ji was effortless and sparkling. And I stood in front of him and struggled with my takes. I knew what was going on inside me. I thought, ‘Chintu ji ke itne acche shots hai. Mere nahi aayenge toh not good. (He took such good shots. If I don’t match it doesn’t look good.’ I would keep running to the monitor just to see this ki call take theek kiya ki nahi. So, Chintu, she said : “Monitor is not for actors. Why are you acting like an insecure actor? Hitesh, why are you allowing her to see the monitor? I would freak out but went and watched the monitor anyway. I loved it all.” It’s great fun,” said the drivers.

Hitesh added to the actor that Rishi Kapoor is opposed to seeing the monitor. “You would never see the monitor after its recordings were made. Even if you ask him, they would say, “That’s your job. I don’t want to see anything,” he said, adding, “I used to enjoy working with him.”

Sharmaji Namkeen will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video on March 31st.
